Coney Island: Hotels
"Beginning in 1829 with the construction of the Coney Island Hotel, development continued with the Brighton, Manhattan Beach, and Oriental Hotels…The hotels offered every amenity available to families vacationing for the summer, including piped-in fresh water, gourmet dinners, security officers who patrolled the beach, and band concerts every evening. Each hotel had its own rail line or ferry connection so patrons could shuttle directly from Manhattan to their seaside resort…"
